Know Your Predators - Nibble Edition

Sometimes the culprit leaves bite marks instead of droppings. That’s where nibble patterns come in. If you’re using Trap Location Cards (or spotting chew marks on packaging, wood or wiring), the shape and style of damage can tell you exactly who’s feeding.
Know Your Predators - Nibble Edition

What chew marks are telling you?

Mouse Nibbles:

  • Small, fine nibbling

  • Smooth, neat edges

  • Usually around the edges of cards or materials

Mice take small, controlled bites. Damage tends to look tidy and localised.

Rat Nibbles

  • Large, aggressive tears

  • Jagged edges

  • Damage across the surface of the card

Rats rip and chew with force. If your card looks shredded, it’s likely a rat.

Slug or Snail Damage

  • Fuzzy, rasped-looking patches

  • Often across the entire card

  • Surface scraping rather than clear bite marks

Not every nibble means rodents. Slugs and snails can leave fuzzy, sandpaper-like damage.

Why This Matters

Knowing who’s feeding helps you:

  • Choose the right trap

  • Adjust placement height (ground vs elevated)

  • Select the right strategy

  • Avoid blaming the lure when it’s actually the wrong target

Use Trap Location Cards Like a Pro

Our Trap Location Cards let you:

  • Test your own lure (e.g: Nutella, Peanut Butter…)

  • Identify the best locations

  • Monitor activity before setting your trap

Once you see consistent nibble activity, you’ve found your trap placement sweet spot.
